Comprehensive DBT Care to Grow

DBT is a form of talk therapy for people who experience feelings deeply. It aims to help you recognize emotions and also learn how to regulate in a healthy, sustainable way. It teaches skills to help you lower distress, improve communication, and set boundaries in relationships. DBT is delivered through 1:1 therapy sessions, as well as in group sessions.

How Dialectical Behavior Therapy Works

DBT teaches you to accept and understand your feelings, while also learning skills to cope with them more efficiently, and to develop practices that keep you grounded in the present.

Our approach to DBT includes:

Self-Awareness

Join individual and group sessions led by a therapist. The first supports personal processing, while the second supports skills integration.

Emotion Management

Understand that emotional distress is inevitable, but that you can manage your behaviors and reactions

Acceptance and Change

Learn that acceptance and change can coexist (hence ‘dialectical’, which means to combine opposing ideas).

Accountability

Actively contribute to your care. Homework is an important element of group therapy to integrate what you learn in the sessions into the real world.

Skills Development

Build the following core skills:

  • Distress tolerance to deal with difficult feelings and respond in healthier ways.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness to set boundaries, manage conflict, and communicate well.
  • Emotion regulation to label emotions and be able to change unhelpful emotional responses.
  • Mindfulness to be grounded in the present moment, rather than worrying about the past or future.

Frequently Asked Questions About DBT

What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is one of the most common, and most researched, forms of treatment for mental health disorders. It’s a type of psychotherapy that involves 1:1 conversations with a therapist and conversations as part of a group.

It was initially created for Borderline Personality Disorder, but is now integrated into treatment for depression, PTSD, and suicidality.

DBT is centered around teaching emotional regulation. In individual and group sessions, you come to understand that emotional distress is inevitable, but that you can manage your behaviors and reactions.

Individual therapy sessions support your personal processing, while the group therapy sessions support your skills integration.

DBT helps people with mental health disorders stabilize and control self-destructive behaviors. The group element of DBT focuses heavily on teaching four core skills: distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and mindfulness. These skills foster long-term resilience, emotional intelligence, and healthy relationships.

We offer a variety of evidence-based therapies alongside DBT, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Somatic Therapy.

We also offer holistic activities including yoga, art therapy, and mindfulness and meditation.
